Tailor-made support for academic founders

General Information

In Austria, intensive discussions are currently taking place about organising universities more entrepreneurially and also offering university graduates opportunities for entrepreneurial activities. In Europe, the ETH Zurich with 24 spin-offs in 2018 and the University of Cambridge with 258 granted patents, 127 commercial licences and over 25 million pounds in funding and investment alone in spin-outs in 2018 are leading in this area.

The Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft (LBG) is the central, multidisciplinary research institution at the interface of science and society in Austria. In recent years, the LBG has positioned itself as an incubator for new topics and formats in the research landscape and, with open innovation in science methods and their concrete implementation, has achieved the development of previous research policies.

The LBG Innovator’s Road Programme in cooperation with the I.E.C.T. – Hermann Hauser and New Venture Scouting is intended to expand the instruments in the direction of “Entrepreneurial Skills” in science.
The offer of the LBG Innovator’s Road Programme tries to address the particularities of start-ups from the academic environment and follows the life cycle of a start-up. This means that tailor-made contents support the development of the founder and his start-up idea at the right time.

Conditions

For whom is the LBG Innovator’s Road Programme developed for?

The target group of the programme is the scientific staff of the Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft as well as of universities and non-university research institutions that have developed a prototype (lab-environment) and want to take the step towards a product with a business model.

Prerequisites for the LBG Innovator’s Road Programme:

More mature start-ups from the Technology/Communication-Readiness Level (TRL/CRL) 2-3. This means that the product, service or technology is defined in a concept and a functioning prototype or experimental proof of concept exists.

Connection to an Austrian research institute / University / etc. is given

Goal of the LBG Innovator's Road Programme

TECHNOLOGY/COMMERCIALISATION
READINESS LEVEL (TRL/CRL)

Start-ups should reach at the latest at the end of the programme
the technology/commercialisation maturity
level of 5 (Test setup is described
in
environment)

INVESTMENT
READINESS

Start-ups should be able to secure funding, that is necessary,
to launch the product on the market,
respectively to reach
the next milestone.

Costs

The programme is free of charge for the participants (not including travel, accomodation and daily allowances).
